{"id":5473,"date":"2019-05-03T10:22:22","date_gmt":"2019-05-03T03:22:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vietnamvoice.org\/?p=5473"},"modified":"2019-06-26T10:45:14","modified_gmt":"2019-06-26T03:45:14","slug":"thong-cao-ve-viec-ong-bach-hong-quyen-di-dinh-cu-tai-canada","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vietnamvoice.org\/en\/2019\/05\/thong-cao-ve-viec-ong-bach-hong-quyen-di-dinh-cu-tai-canada\/","title":{"rendered":"Announcement: Refugee activist Bach Hong Quyen departs for Canada"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">Announcement: Refugee Activist Bach Hong Quyen<\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">Departs For Canada<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Bangkok, May 2, 2019<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">At 10:40 pm on May 2, 2019, Mr. Bach Hong Quyen, a Vietnamese refugee activist in Thailand, and his youngest son, Joseph Bach (6 months old), boarded a flight from Bangkok to Canada for resettlement under Canada\u2019s private sponsorship program.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">About two weeks earlier, on April 16, Ms. Bui Huong Giang, Mr. Quyen&#8217;s wife, and their two daughters also resettled to Canada under the same sponsorship program.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">As a tireless activist, Mr. Bach Hong Quyen was involved with many activities to support environmental victims in the Formosa disaster in Central Vietnam. In May 2017, Mr. Quyen was forced to leave Vietnam for Thailand as a refugee shortly after the Vietnamese authorities issued a warrant for his arrest with a charge of &#8220;disrupting public order&#8221; for his activities in the disaster area.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Mr. Bach Hong Quyen&#8217;s family is among 50 people selected by VOICE and VOICE Canada to be privately sponsored under the Canadian government&#8217;s refugee program.
