Voice from our Homeland

Please join VOICE in supporting Tiếng Nước Tôi (“Voice from our Homeland”) a charity night hosted by us –  the Vietnamese Overseas Initiative for Conscience Empowerment. VOICE is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization working to develop civil society in Vietnam and to resettle the last remaining boat-people left stateless in Thailand, Cambodia and the Philippines.

This night will feature an 8-course dinner and show hosted by human rights lawyer Trinh Hoi. The show will include performances by well-known singers such as Lam Thuy Van, Do Tien Dung, Kimo Huynh Khuu, Nguyen Dinh Cat and Khanh Di, who will be accompanied by the May Trang band.

The event will be hosted at Phu Lam Restaurant (3082 Story Rd. in San Jose, CA 95127) on Saturday, August 15 from 7PM to 11PM.

VOICE’s activities in January 2015


In conjunction with the Vietnamese Community and the Australian Asylum
Seeker Resource Centre (AASRC), VOICE Australia held an information
session for Vietnamese asylum seekers who were recently released into the
community on Bridging Visas. Over 50 asylum seekers were in attendance.
VOz, AASRC and the Vietnamese Community will continue to provide
information and legal assistance as necessary to the refugees. An information
stall will be available at the Tet Festival on February 21 and 22.










On January 23 –25, 2015, VOICE Europe organized two fundraisers in Brussels,

Belgium and Paris, France to help support the development of civil society in
Vietnam. Friends of VOICE in Munich, Germany also organized a fundraiser in
Munich for two civil society organizations (CSOs):
Con Duong Viet Nam and Nhip Cau Hoang Sa. The fundraising concerts, which
were sold out in both Brussels and Paris, included singers Hoang Oanh, Lam
Thuy Van,Nguyen Khang with VOICE’s current Executive Director as the MC
at all the 3 events. These fundraisers served to raise financial assistance for CSOs
in Vietnam and to raise public awareness of the challenges and opportunities in
































On 1 February 2015, VOICE Canada was amongst 14 organizations recognized by
Prime Minister Stephen Harper for efforts in honouring the history of Vietnamese
people in Canada. The award was presented to theVOICE Canada team by Senator
Hai Thanh Ngo during a VIP reception at the 2015 Tet Festival in Toronto, Ontario.
The Vietnamese Association in Toronto also presented VOICE Canada with an
award of appreciation for their outstanding efforts in resettling thelast remaining
Vietnamese Boat People to Canada.

Program Manager Position – Manila, Philippines

VOICE is seeking a lawyer who is passionate about human rights and social justice to volunteer in its office in Manila to:

  • Coordinate our Civil Society Development internship program;

  • Use legal skills to draft briefs and reports regarding human rights abuses to be submitted to a variety of international bodies;

  • Assist with social justice projects (such as grant applications and liaising with NGOs and INGOs); and

  • Draft and collate refugee resettlement applications for stateless Vietnamese refugees in the Philippines, Thailand and Cambodia.

Essential minimum requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Law; and

  • Minimum of two years experience in a relevant field.


  • Strong commitment to human rights protection and social justice;

  • Well developed legal skills (especially in advocacy, drafting and research);

  • Well developed communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills;

  • Ability to work and take initiative, independently and in a team; and

  • Good management and organisational skills; and

  • Adaptability and flexibility to live and work with a small team.
